Autism Awareness Month!

It’s autism awareness month!

Ellis was diagnosed last June and while it’s not always and , we absolutely adore the person God created her to be! Her personality is unmatched and her heart is pure gold.

I think a lot about parents who are afraid of a diagnosis or who are uncomfortable with their child’s struggles.

No parent wants their child to struggle. So hearing someone say that your child is going to struggle in ways that most children won’t is heartbreaking. There’s absolutely some grief that comes with that.

But I often imagine what life would be like for Ellis if we just kept pushing her on without a diagnosis. Expecting her to behave like neurotypical children. Forcing her to perform like neurotypical children. Refusing to provide accommodations and modifications. Ignoring her needs.

That would be even harder. For her. For us. For everyone.

An autism diagnosis isn’t the end of the world. It’s just a different perspective. If you ever need a fellow mom to talk to or want to find your neurodivergent child some inclusive friends- we are here.

We love you, Ellis! Happy autism awareness month!
