September Sensory Bin

Happy September 1st!

From the beginning of time when teachers planned their lessons around monthly thematic units, apples have been the official fruit of September. So what better way to start the month with an Apple Pie Sensory Bin?!

To start, I purchased this apple pie sensory bin companion by Turner Tots on TeachersPayTeachers. I simply don’t have the time to create my own and I love to support others who have already created the content. THANK YOU! This sensory bin lends itself to a child practicing counting and color recognition, so I am so glad the companion provides that practice also!

I also found these ADORABLE mini tart tins on Ebay. They were 100% unnecessary, but COME ON. HOW COULD I NOT?!

Then I filled the bin with rolled oats, cinnamon sticks, and red/green puff balls. I set the scoops on each side of the sensory bin and let the girls go to work!

Because the base is rolled oats, there is a bit more mess to clean up than a puff ball based bin. The oats leave the girls’ hands dusty and there are oats to sweep up, but nothing that outweighs the benefits. I love that this sensory bin provides an opportunity for tactile and olfactory input.

If you’re looking to take your sensory bin a bit further, add some apple themed books to your daily routine this month! (These are all affiliate links.)
